"Time to say goodbye"

Yep - hankies out for media and PR bunnies alike - for hackspruikermedialegendextraordinaire Greg kHunt is leaving us forever.

The time has come to change this column a little. After talking with my editor and the powers that be at 7DAYS, they have agreed that it should take a more international slant. The reason for this is two-fold. Firstly, we can always do with a little ‘freshening up’ of a weekly column so that we don't keep revisiting the same topics and secondly, my family and I are leaving Dubai.

Full tears of joyjerking story here.

Perhaps you'd all like to reminisce your fave memories from 18 years of media excellence?

I want to know which 'editor' he spoke to? Can anyone at 7DAYS enlighten us? Wasn't aware they had an editor...

At last the vaccuous rantings of another self important twit have been axed. Dubai readers will surely heave a sigh of relief.

I know the article is set up for us all to join in on another slagathon.
But shove that. He's a nice bloke - and among Dubai's mediarati that's pretty flippin rare.

Anoymous @ 7.12 - I have to agree. It might not have been Shakespeare, but his column was often quite entertaining.

To be honest. I haven't heard too many people slagging off Greg Hunt (even though he has a name ripe for it).

"To be honest. I haven't heard too many people slagging off Greg Hunt..."

Hmmm. Nobody on this blog works for Action MCS PR agency, then?

or works for moneyworks...

I am just devastated that Greg is leaving he is such an amazing guy. There has never been a writer in Dubai so talented or well loved. Greg is the most honest, uncorrupt, good hearted journalist you will ever meet. He brings great honour to the media profession.

anon @ 1525 - the only person more befitting of your description is bhoyrul

I used to quite like this blog, but it's descending into bullying now: the anonymous moderator proposes someone to pick on, the anonymous bullies join in, and if anyone disagrees, the bullies imply they must be the victim posting under a fake name.
And then everyone goes back to whining about Dubai media being a shit place to work. Ever thought you might be part of the problem?

Must agree with get a life. Underachievers blaming everyone else for their lack of relevance and implying they would be great except for some conspiracy to keep them down.

Good to see some people stepping up to give Greg his due. He has a column, wrote a book, is seeing the world.

Boo frickety hoo. Give the man a tissue.

Half of the joy of this blog is banter about people we've worked with, anonymous gossip and base slander. You must have been misdirected from the "nice opinions about a positive media direction" blog.

As for Greg, he's alright, but it was a bit ironic that he became a commentator on clean business practices and the perils of poor marketing, given some parts of his CV.

Oh, and "underachievers"? I'm a Saudi billionaire sneering at you from my Olympian heights.

(That's why I comment anonymously).

This blog is usually fairly 'on the ball' so I'm surprised that Greg Hunt is the topic for discussion. He's leaving Dubai but not 7days so it's not exactly earth shattering.

The real story at 7days has surely got to be the sacking of the editor last week - who has got the goss on Neil Sawyer's dismissal?

Anonymous said...

Just wish it had been Eudore instead

Surprised the blog missed Swayer's sacking - considering the number of people slagging him off on here.

Is Greg Hunt a hate figure in the realms of NS?

@ get a life: think the point has been missed - it's not the fact that a journo is leaving, but the point that there are some unsavoury tales surrounding his time in dubai, if you dig far enough. Granted, few journos in dubai have been here more than a year, it seems. The issue was not one of slagging off departing media - god knows there have been enough of them.

Anonymous, 12.41 - yes, totally remiss of us to be slow on the 7 Days story. It's up now. That'll teach us to take our eye off the ball. In future, you can email DMO with good stories.

Boo frickety hoo? You sound more like an Enid Blyton character.

Greg Hunt claimed to be a business consultant, businessman, financial consultant, journalist, 'best selling' authour....ask around, there are plenty of other talents he could add to his CV. God help Hong Kong...afetr a few years of him doing 'business' there the Chinese will probably hand it back to the Queen and apologise for the condition it is in. Dubai is a safer place now.

Having known Mr Hunt for some years it has of late been interesting that he
has tried to model himself on somewhat of a self styled media mogul, writing his weekly
ramblings in 7 days. His smug side on view only actually showing one of his
two faces. It was also amusing his little 'snipe' at friends who lets say
wouldn't get 'reunited'...wonder why?

His general comments on banking always made a great many of us raise an
eyebrow, Interest Free Loans, and very very flexible repayment's would have
been more his forte. I'd like to wish anyone moving on from here luck for
the future anyone except for Greg that is., their wont be so many of the
' Old School' waving him off, he knows who he has let down. That's quite
some baggage that Greg can't check in on his way out of here.

When Greg settles in Hong Kong, he will remember being so well versed with travel that they used to call Brit Expats (the 'gweilo's') by another name.. FILTH , ( Failed In London,
Trying Here,) Greg sure is Filth !

To 'The South China Morning Post' dont make the same mistake 7 days did.

How brave of you to write such things anonymously. I believe Greg's email address is on his weekly column in 7 Days. Have you written to him or is that a little too much reality for you.

I for one would rather people loved or hated me. At least they would have an opinion.

So many of us posting regularly to this blog (unlike you I think) are just checking time until our lives start. To quote, " What if this is as good as it gets."

If people have a positive or negative opinion about you, you must at least have done something. And as journalists, as most of us are, we must be sure to at least listen to both sides of any story.

I've met Greg on a number of occasions and only have good things to say about him. However I think he is probably more than capable of 'doing unto others'.

It's always worthwhile remembering, "let he (or she) who is without sin cast the first stone.

Would that be you Anonymous?

That was a bit of a slip-up there Greg?
