New sheriff for 7Days?

From a reader:

Can DMO start a thread about what the arrival of Mark Rix from Associated as new CEO of 7 days means, especially for Steve Lee? The journalists were all laughing like drains when they were told.

Can Associated claw back anything after its purchase of a majority share in 7Days? Distribution and readership have fallen, and I would imagine ad sales have too.

Can he sort out the abortion that is the 7Days website?

Who is the current Editor of 7Days?

Can I predict how this thread will run.

1. Someone will bemoan the deteriorating quality of 7 Days.

2. Someone will defend it against the Notional and Snooze 'News'.

3. Big 'debate' will erupt about which is better.

4. Someone will randomly throw in ITP are crap - even though they do not have a newspaper and so not relevant to this thread.

5. Dave will join in at this point, and say we are all losers for being here, can't get a job anywhere else, etc.

5. Thread will fizzle out, with someone being called a "cunt".

Next thread!

Steve Lee will mentor Mark for the next 12 months in an attempt to give Mark an insight into how a paper should be run.

Mark is really looking forward to this next phase of his career and the experience that Steve can impart.

If he fails he can always join the overpaid and underworked chaps at ITP

What is wrong with the 7Days website?

I think it is OK and much better than something like TOD and those annoying pop-up ads

Is this the same Steve Lee that used to work from about 1215 until 1230 while at ITP then drive his Porsche to the nearest watering hole and drink for the rest of the day before stumbling home and doing it all over again?

I had heard that he had joined the army since then. When did he get back to Dubai?

Steve Lee was not CEO of 7Days so I cannot see why people are laughing about Mark Rix taking over.

Steve Lee has done an excellent job in taking what is a pretty widely read publication and building it up. OK the content and look is not that of a "quality" but it is not trying to be. I do not want to light the audit fire again, but I would imagine that the people at both Motivate and ITP would like the circulation figures that Steve can boast.

Mark Rix is coming in as CEO - that is to say someone who can look at strategy rather than the operational, day to day business. He will complement rather than compete with Steve Lee.

I for one think it is an inspired decision and I wish both Steve and Mark well.

Steve Lee is a top bloke who will run rings around this Johnny come lately fellow Mark Rix.

The fact that Steve is Mark's boss shows the respect that 6Days has for the incredible job that Mr. Lee has done there

Quality!

Has anyone seen Media Week. It is by far the most pathetic excuse for a publication that I have ever seen. This goes way beyond embarasing for ENG.

Hey, I work on Media Week. Let's here something a little more specific and constructive than "patehtic" and "embarasing" [sic].

Even more embarrassing than Insider? Christ...

ITP wanted to launch a newspaper... Arabian Business Standard!

Media Week - design is appalling. Good design should be a given, its not hard to do. Have only seen the sample issue so cannot comment on the content. Also, why was a post criticizing the 7Days editor censored?

What has that got to do with anything? I wanted to be ruler of Dubai, does that mean that we should all debate if I can do the job?

I am getting somewhat weary of all this ITP bashing in every single thread.

The original post is about a new guy coming to 7Days - any chance we can discuss that topic?

Does anyone think that MD's, who are only in their position because they are in Dubai, (and would never get a look in if they were in UK) will learn something if a proper MD came from overseas?

I've now seen the real issue of Media Week. A very poor version. Looks different, but much worse than the real thing. Looks dreary. Decent couple of pages further back.
The strongest pages on Media Week (UK) and Campaign, Brand Republic are the back pages of satire. Media Week's end page featured the compulsory dig at ITP, an article on the use of the word shit (which I didn't really get) and not much else. Shame, as I was looking forward to something much livelier.

Mark Rix is one of Associated's rising stars. There's a chance his arrival will have Abdul Latif and his mates starting another outburst of fake outrage at something 7 days never actually did, because Rix is a different class all together to what is already here in the UAE.
Steve Lee should be terrified as well. No doubt 7 days have patted him on the head and told him not to worry, but his once-a-squaddie, always-a-squaddie antics have never gone down well.

The post about the 7Days editor was deleted as it was potentially defamatory. As we've said before, actual facts would help when slagging off named individuals.

Steve Lee,
who the fuck is she?
Any relation to Bruce Lee
Or Rosie Lee?
Not on anyone's Nelly.
He is but a random employee
And quite boring to me.
A plea,
from Yoda: Next topic, to the, can we, flee?

fuck off georgia stop trying to pretend to be yoda

anon @ 23.57.

I've known Steve Lee for some time and have no recollection of ever seeing him ' terrified' so i doubt the new arrival will cause a first.
you also mention his 'once a squaddie antics' and that they have never gone down too well.?
please explain...

Who is georgia, who is Steve Lee, why are all his friends out in force, and why has his new boss got 6 Days twittering.

More to the point why did Associated bring out a new Top Dog? Is it because 6 Days was under performing? Was Mr lee not up to it? Were ad sales on the decline? Is there a new strategy to do more? Is there any strategy?

What is it? Does anyone know?

If we're going to discuss this deathly exciting subject, at least let's try and make it interesting.

Who's Yoda? Is he the editor of 7Days?

Did anyone notice the randomly hyphenated words in almost all the 7Days 'news reports'? What's up with that?
