Vanity fare

It seems the UAE isn't the only country that loves its vanity publishing . Wonder if the Cook County magazine had better or worse spelling and grammar than we get here?

ENG are advertising for editors on the UK's journalism.co.uk

As you can see proper journalistic experience plus the usual qualifications are required.

"If you think you have what it takes, send a CV, photograph and covering letter to group editor Graham Stacey marked 'Application' in the subject line."

Photograph? Does how you look have any bearing whatso-fucking-ever on your ability as a journalist?

However, there is an upside - there's little chance of ITP staff (particularly Serafin and that scrawny ratboy at Time Out) getting a job.

I thought they all looked like Walid/Capt Bob/Capt Awad or Capt Corderoy...
Not the best looking publishing house on our fair shores (haha)

Photographs are requested so that the employers can determine the race of candidates before making a decision - just in case someone whose name is not instantly identifiable as to race applies.

Apparently, ENG only employ people from the subcontinent. As per Motivate. Right or wrong, it
makes financial sense. As Norris points out, if ITP were to select candidates on their looks, they'd only have one member of the board, judging from those photographs!

Why is this lame argument always put up as a way to make the completely unacceptable appear acceptable?

Judging people by race is completely and totally unacceptable, full stop.
